Cure Acid Reflux with ACV

The following information is posted on EarthClinic.com Please visit their website for more details on this and other folk medicine cures.

Acid Reflux or gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a very common condition in which the liquid content of the stomach backs up into the esophagus. It can be extremely painful and linger on and on. However, we believe that with patience, a healthy diet and a few home remedies, you can cure acid reflux.

Acid Reflux Symptoms

Also known as GERD, acid reflux is a very common condition in which the liquid content of the stomach backs up into the esophagus. This happens when the lower esophageal sphincter is abnormally relaxed. The sphincter is designed to prevent the stomach contents from flowing upward – it functions as one-way valve, so if it is not working properly, stomach acid flows in the esophagus.

The liquid from the stomach usually contains acid as well as pepsin (pepsin is an enzyme in the stomach that begins the digestion of proteins). Although the liquid may contain bile, acid is believed to be the worst aspect of the liquid.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACID REFLUX AND HEARTBURN?
If you suffer from heartburn two or more days a week, it may be Acid Reflux, or GERD.

IS ACID REFLUX A SERIOUS CONDITION?
Acid Reflux can become serious over time if the reflux of stomach acid erodes the delicate lining of the esophagus.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF ACID REFLUX?
• sour taste
• burning sensation at the back of the throat
• painful or burning sensation in the upper abdomen or chest, at times radiating to the back (heartburn)
• breathing difficulties
• hoarseness in the morning
• excessive belching is common
• food feels stuck at back of throat, tightness
• dry cough
• bad breath

WHAT FOODS SHOULD I AVOID WITH ACID REFLUX?
• chocolate
• peppermint
• coffee
• fruit juices
• alcohol

These prevent the esophageal sphincter from working properly.

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)

In our experience, Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is by far the best cure for acid reflux (or GERD), even in extreme cases of acid reflux. We originally started this site just because we wanted to post information for our friends and family to help them with their acid reflux. On one Thanksgiving holiday, we got 6 friends off of their acid reflux medication by switching them to Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar. It’s the cheapest and safest cure for acid reflux that we know. Later we found out from several friends that their naturopath also recommended Bragg’s brand. You will find more on this topic on our ACV Warnings and Notes page.

Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar

Other than using Bragg’s brand on our naturopath’s recommendation, we have no relationship with the the manufacturer of Bragg at all. We don’t know them and they don’t know us. We don’t benefit in any ways (financially or otherwise) by mentioning their brand on this site. We get no kickbacks, no money, no nothing!

Recommended Dosage

Standard Dosage: 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar (ACV) in 1 cup (8 oz) of water. Add honey to taste.
Earth Clinic’s Dosage: 2 TBSP of ACV in 1 cup (8 oz) of water. No honey. (This is the dosage that works best for us **.).
Naturopath Doctor’s Dosage: 2 TBSP of ACV in 1/2 cup (4 oz) of water 30 minutes before each meal. No honey, juice, or anything else.

**The Earth Clinic’s dosage worked for us when we had a severe acid reflux problem. Now we use 2 TBSP of ACV in 2 cups (16 oz.) of water whenever we feel the acid reflux symptoms and it still works great.

Note: 2 TBSP may be too much apple cider vinegar for some people. We suggest you start with the standard dosage and see how your body responds to a teaspoon or two of ACV. If all goes well, you can up the dosage over time.
